St John's Church
Nestled in the heart of the world-renowned wine township of Langhorne Creek, sits the Anglican Church of St John. Sprawled over 2 allotments, 1 Title, the 1936m2 property allows room for additions or further development (scc). After it was decided by the church committee way back in 1913, a search would commence for a suitable site to build a local Anglican Church. A great effort was undertaken by local parishioners not only to raise funds for the purchase of land but also the construction of the Church. After securing the land in 1914, more fundraising from fairs and dances was achieved along with generous donations from local families, enabling the construction of the church. The attention to detail in furnishing the church prior to its opening in 1929 is also commendable. Since then not much has changed to the character limestone stone building. Beautiful stained glass windows still line the walls allowing coloured dappled light to filter. Differing times of the day, the bouncing light changes, giving a soft and calm feel. Solid jarrah flooring is throughout, partly covered by the red carpet aisle which leads to the alter. Your eye is drawn to the soaring cathedral ceilings and a grand plastered Arch, which is quite breathtaking. Demanding attention from the street, the soaring bell tower, complete with bell, is a striking feature. This again was a gift, donated by a local family, and remains working today. The charm and character set this property apart from anything else. This is an opportunity which does not present often. Only 1 hour from Adelaide, a quick drive to historic Strathalbyn or the beaches of the south coast, the Church is ideally situated and will convert beautifully to a character country get away, guest accommodation or private residence. There are also endless commercial opportunities, subject to Alexandrina Council consent. Nestled between the local Pub, school, post office and surrounded by wineries with exceptional cellar doors, this is your chance to create something special. Be a part of local history, the next chapter is looking very exciting!
